      Our Nationwide delivery service provides fast and effective transportation of your new bifold door.

      All of our bifold doors will arrive ready assembled with the glass loose, unless ordered over 6300mm and or 7/8 panes; in which case, they will be delivered flat packed ready for you to assemble on site.

      Please be mindful of delivery access (17.5 tonne lorries typically) and ensure there are capable people to safely unload and take delivery of your new bifold door.

      Weights vary but typically require three people to take delivery of the product.

      All of our lantern roofs arrive flat-packed with the glass loose and ready for you to assemble on site.

      Frequently Asked Questions

      Bi-fold doors work by folding in on themselves in a concertina motion, sliding along a track mechanism to offer an unobstructed opening. This is made possible by a multi-wheeled carriage that allows for smooth operation.

      Aluminium has proven itself to be a modern, high performance alternative material to uPVC.

      It is more durable, matches the aesthetics of wood, and has slimmer frames. Aluminium doesn't expand as much, requires less maintenance and is inherently stronger than alternative materials.

      The bi-fold doors that we offer can be configured to open in a wide array of options, including:

      • Opening in
      • Opening out
      • Stacking from the left or the right
      • Opening in the centre, from the end or in between

      The pitch of our lantern roofs is fixed at a 20° all round. This is to ensure structural integrity in the face of heavy snow, wind and rain loads; it also allows us to offer a roof that achieves a beautifully stylish appearance.

      Every element of the Stratus Thermal lantern roof has been designed to be exceptional. From the low profile 20˚ pitch that allows us to use purpose designed capping that keep sightlines to a minimum - and your view of the sky maximised - to the discreet black finish of our perimeter beam, that ensures if you view the lantern from above all you’ll see is glass and a discreet shadow line.       Recent innovations allow our lantern roofs to provide maximum thermal efficiency. Our roofs feature polyamide nylon, glass composite thermal breaks to achieve a standard of performance that is 65% more efficient than other roofs.

      Glazing Options

      All our bifold doors are bespoke, so whatever glazing unit size you specify, you can be confident that they have been specifically designed to allow for this.

      The standard specification includes a thermally efficient 28mm double glazed toughened unit incorporating a warm edge spacer bar, energy efficient glass and argon gas, which when fitted in the bifold will give an overall u-value of 1.8 W/m2K.

      Why you might want to consider upgrading to triple glazing

      The main advantage triple glazing has over the standard double glazing is increased insulation as they are more efficient at keeping the heat in, so can make your home feel warmer. Using triple glazed units in your bifold will improve the overall u-value to 1.4 W/m2K.

      Triple

      In the winter your home will feel warmer as less heat will escape through the units and in the summer, you will feel cooler as less radiant heat will enter your home. A further advantage is that the extra layer of glass can reduce external noise pollution and improve the acoustics, making it a beneficial choice for many urban areas.

      It is also worth bearing in mind that triple glazed units do weigh more than the standard double-glazed units so the doors can will require more force to operate and as you can imagine there is an additional cost so you will need to consider whether the extra warmth and noise reduction outweighs the initial higher cost of the triple glazed units.

      External Cill Options

      Most bifold doors will need an external cill fitting which is a separate aluminium extrusion like those fitted on most external windows. They are designed to both cover and protect the brickwork that the doors sit on by allowing water to project away from the top and face of the bricks to avoid long term water damage.

      There are a variety of cill widths available, 150mm, 190mm and 225mm, the most common one used is the 150mm cill which is suitable if your doors are going to be fitted level with the internal edge of the outside course of bricks, with most bricks being 100mm wide this means the cill projects 50mm past the face of the bricks which is sufficient for the water to drain away from the brick face. If the frame is being fitted further inside the cavity wall, you may wish to choose a wider cill so that you get sufficient projection to allow any water to run off, as a guide we recommend that this distance should be 40mm or greater.

      This is our standard cill and leaves a 50mm overhang on the bottom of the door.

      190mm cill

      190mm

      This deeper cill has a 90mm overhang if the frame is fitted to the back edge of the external brick course. This cill is generally used for locations where the frame is set back further away from the outside brickwork, e.g. if you have rendered/timber clad walls.

      225mm cill

      225mm

      The deepest cill we offer would have a 125mm overhang if the frame was fitted to the back edge of the external brick course. This cill is generally used for locations where the frame is set back further away from the outside brickwork, e.g. if you have rendered/timber clad walls.

      Threshold Options

      This is the part of the frame that you step over to get in and out of the doors. We recommend the standard threshold which has a rebated frame, this provides the best weather protection for your doors as the upstand is designed to create a physical barrier against any water or wind trying to enter the property as it creates a useful edge to seal the opening doors to.

Depending on if you are fitting the doors into a new build property or as a direct replacement it may be possible to fit the threshold in such a way that on open out doors the internal floor can be finished flush to the threshold so that there is no internal step.

      Standard cill

      The low threshold: we do not recommend this threshold for external use, especially not in exposed locations as this option has no rebate for the opening doors to close on to and therefore there is no direct seal and instead the system relies on a rubber gasket and a brush pile. Whilst we have done everything to minimise the risk of air and water penetrating inside the property with this type of cill we cannot guarantee it. This option does have the advantage of only being 15mm high which means that there is only a very small step over and ramps are also available if required.

      Head Vent Options

      If you are fitting a bifold door into a new build property or extension, then to comply with Building Regulations provisions must be made within the frame to fit a head vent/trickle vent to allow for 5000mm2 of background ventilation. Most vents are controllable which means you can have them open or closed and as the name suggests, when open the trickle vents allow a small and regular flow of clean air into the property to create a healthier and better living environment, the nature of the airflow is hardly noticeable.

      So, in short if you are having doors for a new build property or extension then you should order your door with head vents.

      All bifold ordered over 6300mm and or 7/8 panes will be delivered flat pack and do not come ready assembled.

      Frame Extension Options

      We can supply sections of Aluminium profiles (referred to as frame extensions) that clip onto the sides/top of the frame to make the profile wider. They are often used in properties which have deep plaster reveals to allow extra clearance for the frame which will prevent the frame from being buried into the plaster, typically unless the plaster is more than 30mm deep you should not require add-ons although your surveyor or installer should be able to advise you accordingly.

      Our aluminium lantern roof glazing options include 24mm standard double glazing, in the following styles: Azura+ Blue, Natura+ Planitherm, bronze, grey and clear.
      These glazing options have been designed to increase the heat retention performance of the roof build.

      How To Measure Bifold Doors

      Before ordering your bifold doors, you’ll need to precisely measure the aperture in which the door set is going to be installed.

      1. Measure the width and height of the opening in 3 separate places (as shown in the diagram below).
      2. Take the smallest dimension for the width (2195) and height (2095) and delete 10mm from each size, this will give you the correct sizes for ordering.
      3. The 10mm deduction will allow you to pack out the frame during installation in order to ensure that the doors are perfectly plumb in the opening.
      4. Doors must be viewed from the outside when ordering – this is important when specifying opening options.

      How To Measure Lantern Roofs

      To order a lantern roof you need to provide us with two sizes; the width and the length.

      It is important to bear in mind that the lantern roof must sit on a timber upstand (we do not supply the timber upstand and recommend an upstand of 100mm wide x 150mm tall). You therefore need to include the width of this upstand in your measurements to us.

      • The width equals the actual opening size PLUS the width of the timber upstand (on both sides)
      • The length equals the actual opening size PLUS the width of the timber upstand (on both sides)

      The wrong measurements might lead to a Roof Lantern of the wrong size, so please make sure that your sizes are accurate before completing your purchase.

      In the example below:

      • The width of the opening is 1500mm
      • The length of the opening is 3000mm
      • We are using a timber upstand of 100mm wide x 150mm tall
      • So, the roof size we need to order is:
        • Width = 1500mm + 100mm +100mm = 1700mm
        • Length = 3000mm + 100mm +100mm = 3200mm
